Rumtek Monastery (Dharma Chakra) Gangtok (Sikkim)

A short drive of 125 km/4 Hrs from Bagogra (IXB) Airport will take you to the largest historic monastery of Eastern Himalayas; build by his holiness 16th Gyalwa Karmapa. It is the replica of the original Kagyurpa. Now this magnificent gumpa acts as the head quarter of the Dharma Chakra Religious Centre. Further 15 minutes’ walk to downhill from Dharma Chakra Centre takes on to the old Rumtek Monastery which was originally build in 17th century by 9th Karmapa but was destroyed by fire the same sight was re-constructed by his holiness Gyalwa Karmapa.

Tshangu Lake, Gangtok (Sikkim)

40 kms / 2.5 Hrs steady drives from Gangtok will reach you to one of the areas most scenic lake known as Tshangu. The literal meaning of Tshangu in local language is “Source of the Lake. The lake itself is sacred to both Hindus and Buddhist. The lake is about 1 km long and 50 ft. deep and has surrounded by high hills all around. In winter one can see the entire lake frozen. Yak ride and photography can be a memorable experience at the lake side.

Sundarvan National Park (Unesco) Near Kolkata (West Bengal)

Designated as a world heritage site by UNESCO Sundarvan is located in the south east of Kolkata. Sundarvan is the world’s largest formed delta formed by Ganga and Brahmaputra River. It’s also known for its unique mangrove eco system. Sundarvan is largest single block of tidal halophytic mangrove forest in the world. The literal meaning of Sundarvan is Beautiful forests which has named after having large number of Sundari tress in this zone.

The national park is also a biosphere reserve zone and home to the famous royal Bengal tiger, spread in over an area of 130 sq. km. The core area of park is bound by local river matla on the west and east the netidhopani and gosaba on the north.

Gurudongmar Lake, Near Lachen (North Sikkim)

Located at the height of 17100 Gurudnomar Lake is one of highest mountain lake of the world. Its also provide sources streams to the river Tessta of Sikkim region. The legend says that the lake is very much sacred and is named after Guru Padmasamvwa who has conducted rituals here even gurunank the found of Sikhism has visited this holy lake. Darjeeling Himalayan Railways (Dhr) Darjeeling (West Bengal)

Kaziranga National Park (Unesco) Kazirnaga (Assam)

Manas National Park (Unesco) Kazirnaga (Assam)

Located at Himalayan foothills manas national park is country’s finest wildlife sanctuary rewarded as UNESCO world heritage sight, famous for project tiger reserve, elephant tiger reserve and an biosphere reserve in Assam. The park is better known for its rare species of wildlife such as the Assam Roofed Turtle, Golden Languor, Pygmy Hog and Hispid hare. The name mana has derived from goddess mansa and the local manas river.

Majauli Island, Majauli (Assam)

Formed by the river Brahmaputra, majauli in one of the world’s largest river line island and largest freshwater island of South Asia. Majauli has its own cultural and religious value and is also the abode of the Assamese neo-Vaisnavite culture.

The island has reached agricultural tradition and has as many as hundred varieties of rice grown all are without any chemical fertilizer. Handicraft and handloom are another way of economy sustainability.

The Hornbill Festival, Nagaland

Better known as festival of festivals, the hornbill festival is a celebration held in every year from 1st to 10th December in the state of “Nagaland”. The festival is named after Indian hornbill and widely celebrated in state.

To promote and preserve the inter-tribal interaction and to promote cultural heritage of Nagaland, the government and tourism body organizes the hornbill festivals every year in the first week of December.
